Sosian Ranch in Laipikia, Northern Kenya is a wonderful 24,000 acre private colonial style ranch in a magnificent setting.

The main house is a classic homestead with wide sweeping verandahs around the house, high ceilings, a cosy living room with a warm fireplace and a snooker and bridge table! Sipping tea on the verandah you will get beautiful views of Mt Kenya in the horizon and miles and miles of unspoilt Africa!

It is personally hosted by lovely people with excellent home style cooking and warm service and hospitality. Lunch is usually by the poolside and dinner in the traditional dining room. Breakfasts are usually al fresco in the property, on the verandah or a surprise bush breakfast by the river.

Sosian is a fabulous option for families with children with lots of adventure activities to fill the day! You can go tubing down the Ewaso Ngare river, gorge swing across the river, jump into the river from the top of a waterfall, indulge in fishing or go camel riding! And of course the traditional vehicle safari where night drives after dinner for the adventurous are the highlight.

The real specialty of Sosian is their horseback riding safaris. These are authentic safaris where you are taken on horseback close up to lion, elephant and buffalo. This is exciting stuff and the only skill required is to be able to gallop out of a sticky encounter with big game!

Sosian has huge herds of elephant, good lion and leopard sightings and is one of the few places in Africa where you have a great chance to see the highly endangered wild dogs.

The best time to visit is the dry season of June to October and another particularly good time to visit is February and March. Sosian is best combined with Masai Mara. Laikipia also has another lovely private conservancy called Lewa Downs which delivers a fabulous safari experience.
