The wildebeest complete their annual migration & return to the rich short grass plains of the Southern Serengeti in Tanzania to give birth.

Calving
A miracle of nature... thousands of wildebeest babies born at the same time

Literally tens of thousands of wildebeest babies are born around the same time. This is nature's way to safeguard the wildebeest young. When predators see such a profusion of "easy prey", they get confused and as a result a high percentage of the wildebeest young survive this initial danger. Generally the wildebeest give birth during the months of February and March.

The Southern Serengeti and Ndutu areas in Tanzania are the best locations for the months of January, February and March to witness thousands of wildebeest spread across the plains grazing on the rich short grass plains. Predator action is at its peak with great sightings of cheetah, lion, hyena and leopard and a very good chance to see adrenalin packed kills.

Our calving safaris combine the best of the Southern Serengeti/Ndutu with the Central Seronera areas of the Serengeti to give you a perfect safari. Our top class mobile camps in Ndutu and excellent permanent camps in the Seronera are an ideal mix of luxury and earthiness. Our calving safaris are a treat for the adventure enthusiasts.
